I have just published a new version of solaR and rasterVis on CRAN. From now on both packages will be developed in GitHub.
There are some changes in rasterVis to highlight:
vectorplot
acceptsisField='dXY'
to display vector fields defined by vertical and horizontal components.- The backroground region of
vectorplot
can be defined with a differentRasterLayer
. - horizonplot has a new argument,
stat
, to define a function to be applied to each zone.

Thanks for all the work you have done on solaR — I find it very useful.
I do have one question. In the calcGef function, if you specify modeTrk=’horiz’ it assumes alfa=0 — if I am reading the documentation correctly. Is there any way, or plan to develop the function such that you could calculate the radiation on a generator plane with single tracking orientated at an alfa different than 0?
Perhaps it would involve changing the trig in the fTheta function?
Thoughts?
Thanks
Josh

Hi Josh,
When you choose
modeTrk='horiz'
you are simulating the behavior of a tracker with an horizontal axis aligned with the North-South axis. Therefore, its orientation angle (alfa
) is +/-90º (I have to improve the help page :-)). If you need the equations, I have published them (in spanish) in this book in Section 2.2.2 from page 15.Different geometries involve additional code in fTheta as you guessed. Although it wasn’t in my plans, I will think about it.
Best,
Oscar.
